Advanced Manufacturing
Advanced manufacturing, including automotive manufacturing and composites, is driven by the aviation industry, the 60-plus-year-old General Motors plant in Kansas, and many automotive suppliers. With the transition to new technologies such as the electric vehicle supply chain, Panasonic Energy announced the construction of an automotive Li-ion battery plant in July 2022. Also, EMP Shield, an industry leader in protecting electronic devices from destructive magnetic pulses, and Integra Technologies, a fully integrated provider of semiconductor packaging, testing, qualification, and other services, plan to invest in a large-scale semiconductor manufacturing facility respectively. Kansas is ready to support these sectors.
Aerospace & Defense
Kansas manufactured nearly 70% of the general aviation aircraft currently in use around the world. Kansas employs 34,000 people in the aerospace industry. Kansas feed and forage production is an important sector of the state’s agricultural economy, Kansas livestock producers are a major outlet for hay, silage and feed grains that are produced within the state’s borders.
